And the Winner Is....

As I am reflecting on this Web 2.0 course, I first want to say thank you Dr. Dennen, I have enjoyed this course.  You have engaged us and opened my eyes to many concepts related to instructional development in the social media realm that I would've never known about or thought of.

We have been introduced to a number of social media sites, my favorite social media site for instructional design is Youtube.  With Youtube, you can build an entire curriculum of videos.  Although it isn't as social as some of the other tools we have used, you do have analytics built into Youtube.  I can see myself developing a curriculum to train my new team members in Primerica on the Youtube platform.

Although the concept of blogging has existed for many years, I have never really followed any particular blog.  I have also never had the desire to start a blog myself.   Now that it is part of the class assignments for #eme6414 I am interested in delving into the world of blogging.  I am also interested to read the blogs from my classmates to read their perspectives on this field of study and the concepts.   I am a little nervous about this course, however, I am also excited to become familiar with new social media sites and technology.  I am also excited to learn how to engage readers in commentary and learning using blogs and social media.

Week 3 - Reflection

As I look back over this week and the information we have studied, I have learned a lot about curation.  I particularly liked Storify as a curation site.  Although, as I have said before, I have not really been keen on curating in the past.  I now see the benefits it can have for a blogger or instructional designer. I have also gained a better knowledge and understanding of communities from the paper.  I see how different communities operate and interact. I can see how beneficial communities can be and how much knowledge and information can be gleened from the members of some communities. Overall, I have learned and grown a lot this week.

Two Heads are Better Than One

This week we discussed the concept of crowdsourcing.  We have all heard the saying, "two heads are better than one."  Crowdsourcing takes this idea to the next level.  Crowdsourcing is allowing companies to benefit from the ideas and creative concepts of people from all over the globe, not just those within the company.  In addition to crowdsourcing, with the development of cloud computing, now companies can have multiple people contribute to a single project in one place and benefit to produce a far better product.  Crowdsourcing can also spur even new ideas because the contribution of one person, can ignite a new idea in someone else.  I was able to find a very good infographic that explains the differences and benefits of crowdsourcing vs. outsourcing. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AZFWyKWRUAFs__lyP6qkmleaf-1P6OKaPRH2ST49wchFgsD_Egysw14/
